Anniversary Gifts - Ninth Anniversary

By: Michael Russell

If you thought it was tough getting an anniversary gift for number eight, it doesn’t get much easier with number nine. But don’t fret. We’re going to sort this mess out and hopefully come up with some decent traditional and modern ideas so that you can get your spouse a gift that he or she will love and cherish for many years to come.

Just a side note. It is quite possible that the reason they make getting a gift for anniversary number nine so difficult is to make you appreciate making it to the big number ten. So, having said that, let’s examine the obstacles you’ll need to get through in order to make it to that magic number ten.

The traditional gift for number nine is almost identical to number eight. Not quite sure why this is but there had to be reason. Number eight was bronze or pottery and number nine is pottery or willow. For those of you who don’t know what willow is, or what can possibly be made out of it, don’t fret. We have the definition and items right here.

Willow, for you non naturists and according to the dictionary definition, “is a tree or shrub of the genus salix. It is characterized by narrow, lance-shaped leaves and dense catkins bearing small flowers, many species having tough, pliable twigs or branches used for wickerwork”. Great. So what can you get that’s made out of this stuff? Well, what you have to do is find a wood item that is at least partially made from one of these trees. In other words, good luck. Most wood items are not specifically marked as to what kind of wood they are made out of unless you are talking about furniture, which is mostly made out of your more common woods like oak, pine and mahogany.

However, there is one thing in particular that is made from willow. It’s a cricket bat. Okay, maybe cricket isn’t something that’s played all over the world, but if by some chance your spouse happens to be an avid cricket player, which isn’t likely, then this is the perfect gift.

Since we’re covered pottery for anniversary number eight, we’re going to just skip over to the modern gift for number nine which is linen and lace. Well, finally. Something easy. Guys, your wife would love nothing better than some nice new curtains for the living room, or any room for that matter. Lace curtains are absolutely beautiful and she will love you for it. Or if you want to go the linen route, you can get her a nice linen table cloth for the dining room table. Ladies, you might just want to get your husband a cricket bat.

Okay, anniversary gifts for number nine aren’t the easiest to come up with. But with a little brain power, you’ll manage to come up with something and make it to that magic number ten, which is a whole lot easier and a lot more enjoyable as well.
