Anniversary Gifts - Seventy-fifth Anniversary

By: Michael Russell

If it’s hard to believe that you’ve been married 75 years, you probably don’t have a lot of company. The truth is, very few people make it to such a magnificent milestone in their lives and this is a day to be cherished for what it is, something very special. If you’re wondering just what it is that you’re supposed to be getting as an anniversary gift for your spouse of three quarters of a century, you’ll be pleased to know that it’s something that is sure to put a smile on his or her face and a huge dent in your bank account. But fear not. If you’re short on funds and can’t afford the traditional gift, there are some modern alternatives that people have been coming up with, just in case anybody actually makes it to this happy occasion.

This year the list makers have given you a number of choices. I guess they figured if you made it this far with the same person the very least you should have is a fairly big list. So this year you can get your spouse either diamonds, diamond like stones or gold. Take your pick. Any of the above will certainly land you in debt for the rest of your life unless mankind somehow finds a way to get people to live as long as trees. Fortunately, there are some alternatives that you might be interested in if the above gifts are too much for your bank account.

The one great thing about being married 75 years is that people give you a lot of leeway. You can pretty much get your spouse just about anything and it will be greatly appreciated. Of course you want to at least try to keep your gift within the spirit of the occasion. So for gold, you can always go for something gold plated. Actually, a 75th anniversary gold plated plate will do just fine. No, these are not for eating off of. They’re simply for show. They usually come with a stand that you can put on your china closet or anywhere your heart desires. Nobody is going to argue with you.

What you might want to do is get your spouse and yourself a 75th anniversary edition of the popular Monopoly game. Yes, believe it or not, if you are reading this at the time it was written, you were married the same year that the game first came out. So what better way to celebrate your anniversary than with one of the most popular games ever made. It doesn’t even matter if you can’t play it anymore. Besides, you probably wouldn’t want to take it out of the box anyway.

Of course, if you really want to stay as traditional as you possibly can, you might decide to go with those diamonds or a gold watch. The important thing is that you’re spending this day together. Those who are fortunate enough to stay married for 75 years are truly blessed. The anniversary gift is secondary to the sentiment behind it.
