Anniversary Gifts - Twenty-Seventh Anniversary

By: Michael Russell

If you thought you had trouble finding a suitable anniversary gift for last year’s offering, wait until you see what the modern gift idea is for anniversary number 27. You’re going to find yourself wishing for your 30th to come around very soon. Unfortunately, you have a few years to go until you get there. So, what’s so awfully hard about finding an anniversary gift for this year’s occasion? Did you ever try to find a sculpture that didn’t look like something out of A Midsummer Night’s Dream?

That’s right my friend. This year you have to drag yourself out of the house, go down to one of those specialty stores and try to find a sculpture that doesn’t want to make you think of little dancing pixies or cupid with his bow and arrow.

The truth is, if you look at most sculptures, you will find that many of them are quite abstract. It’s hard to find something that even remotely looks like it belongs in the 21st century and trying to find something with clothing is almost impossible. Then of course, there is the problem with having to display this thing somewhere in your home where other people can see it. If your spouse stuffs it in a drawer somewhere, you know you’re going to be hurt. So what do you do? Well, after combing the online and offline world, we’ve actually found a few sculpture ideas that won’t make you want to cringe and hide under a rock somewhere.

Today, for whatever reason, everybody is into the lighthouse scene. Maybe because lighthouses are so rare in this day and age. If you go down to South Jersey, you’ll find many license plates with a very famous Jersey lighthouse on them. Well, guess what? You can get a very nice sculpture of a lighthouse from a guy by the name of Paul McTaggart on the Internet. The sculpture will run you about $45. To be technical, it’s a lighthouse sconce. It’s made so you can actually put other pieces on the top of it. The designer recommends seashells or a candle. Either will do nicely.

Okay, so it doesn’t have the awe-inspiring beauty of those ancient pieces, but at least you can put it in your home without people looking at it and trying to figure out what it is. Of course, if you’ve decided that you really do want something a little more majestic, there is something that you can get that you don’t have to hide in the drawer and comes with clothes. At a place on the Internet called Eleganza’s, where they specialize in sculptures, you can pick up a really nice ancient Roman Chariot Race sculpture. You really have to see this thing. It’s very well made and something that you can be proud to put on display.

The truth is, if you look hard enough, you can find sculptures that are both beautiful and tasteful. Not everything out there looks like it came out of Caligula’s house of horrors.
