Dating, so my single clients tell me, is one of the biggest challenges for today’s singles. My clients tell me that there are so many mistakes to make and traps to fall into.
The Packaging Trap
One of the most common traps is the Packaging Trap. You get caught in the packaging trap when you focus on the outside packaging. This can be features such as someone’s body, looks, wealth, job, possessions, connections, etc.
Focusing on the packaging causes you to overlook the reality of the person inside. This can result in at least two negative outcomes:
1. You miss someone who is fantastic on the inside but does not meet one of your packaging criteria, or
2. You miss some of the ugly characteristics inside someone because you are so distracted by the packaging.
In either case you overlook something very important because you are distracted by the packaging of the person.
Your Solution: Simple yet powerful and challenging to do - clearly define your requirements for the life and relationship you really want. Then you need to focus on a balance between your attraction to the packaging by paying attention to the reality of the person inside. Both are important. To ignore either one sets you up for disappointment and unpleasant surprises.
