Atlanta Singles Dating Traps - Dating Trap Number 7 - The Attraction Trap
By: Jeff Herring
Dating is, of course, based on attraction. At least attraction is where it begins. If attraction is where it ends, dating and relationships can lead to disaster.
For singles, the problem comes up when we decide that a strong attraction to someone means it is a good fit, or even worse, “meant to be.”
When we focus too much on attraction alone, it is incredibly easy to miss the red flags that are telling us this might not be a good idea.
Infatuation is such a powerful force
It’s been said that love is blind. Well, if it’s true that love is blind, then attraction followed by sex is the blindfold.
Driven solely by attraction, we can make lots of unconscious choices instead of conscious choices. One of the many dangers of making unconscious choices is the repeating of painful past patterns.
Solution: “Choose your life’s mate carefully. From this one decision will come ninety percent of your happiness or misery.(H. Jackson Brown, Jr. from “Life’s Little Instruction Book”).
Make conscious choices. Know what your requirements and needs are in a relationship, and enter into a committed long term relationship only when they are met. It’s funny, when your requirements and needs are being met, your attraction for someone can increase geometrically.
