Know Your Man: Admiration
By: Maria Moratto
“To love is to admire with the heart; to admire is to love with the mind.” ~ Theophile Gautier
“Admiration, n. Our polite recognition of another’s resemblance to ourselves.” ~ Ambrose Bierce
No woman will stand a relationship if she doesn’t admire her partner. There has to be something that our men are truly good at, that we need to keep reminding ourselves, especially when the luster of the relationship has lost its power or when we want to maintain a good one. Equally, it is important for men to be admired.
Admiration breeds respect which, in turn, promotes acceptance. Even though we are not to brag about our men to others, we can certainly do it to ourselves and to our men. Let’s create a fan club of one, for his sake and for the sake of our own relationship.
When you show your admiration, your spouse will see it as appreciation for his prowess. The atavist being that he is will take him back to an age when he was indeed the real family “breadwinner”: going out on a hunt to support his family was demanded of him and he, of course, complied. A modern man needs to feel that he is still needed and by showing our admiration we are simply reinforcing the idea of: “You are indeed the greatest of all.” Men like that.
Also, admiring their abilities is good because it makes us revisit our own abilities as well and that means that by making them feel good, we do the same unto ourselves. Spare no compliments.
A Word of Advice
Ladies: Remember that we can’t see in others qualities we ourselves don’t possess. Of course, the reverse is true. To every quality you see in him, there is the same one lying within you.
Gents: If you miss being admired, starting by admiring as well. Once you compliment her on a quality, you can also say: I like to share this quality with you. The more you express your admiration, the more she will too.
