Online Dating and You

By: Rene Ng

Still remember those days, when you had to ask for a date through a friend or even by match making? Dating in the 21st century has taken many turns, among these the emerging popularity of meeting partners online.

Well, these days with the advent of internet. The shy dater can open up and get to know a person without having to deal with first-date jitters that often come from fear of the unknown. Online dating is fast catching up in popularity. By the time he or she meets the potential partner, they have already established a comfort level that allows the date to flow much more smoothly.

On the other extreme, social butterflies love online dating because of the number of fish in the sea. With so many people to choose from, booking several dates in a short amount of time is easy. Online dating allows you to be discreet, and it also enables you to pick and choose. You select partners based on common interests gleaned from dating profiles. This is an attractive alternative to approaching a potential mate in a bar going on looks alone.

As the online dating community has grown, more and more operators are cashing in on this new opportunity. Professional writers and photographers offer services to assist you with your dating profile. They hawk services to help you attract more visitors to your online profile, which obviously helps lead to more dating opportunities.

Online Dating websites comes in different forms. Most are free to join, but requires a certain fees to enjoy certain benefits, such as the ability to post a picture or short video. Other dating sites offer free private e-mail accounts and access to thousands of profiles without paying a dime. Although online dating offer you unlimited options and new horizon, it is important to exercise caution.

Always remember that anyone with Internet access has access to these sites. It is impossible for dating sites to screen out the bad from the genuine; the online dater must take care not to set up dates with strangers unless he or she has known that person for a while. (Although this is not necessarily true) When you do meet up with the person face-to-face, choose a public place instead of secluded spots. Don’t divulge too much information until you have a good idea of the person’s character. Do not be too eager to tell too much too soon. Always approach with a cautious attitude to be on the safe side. But leave room for open mindedness, and online dating can be fun, safe, and exciting.
