Online Dating Tips

1. Complete all questions in the profile form. . If you fail to answer all questions you may miss out on meeting a variety of people.
2. Always include your photograph. Both men and women are 20 times more likely to access profiles if a photo is included than without it. Make sure it is a recent photo.
3. Don’t be negative or complain in your profile, even if you have had some bad experiences in the past.
4. Romance on the internet is a numbers game. Contact a variety of people, don’t just fixate on one profile in the beginning.
5. Don’t be afraid to use online dating. If the first person you contact isn’t interested, keep trying as the next contact may be the one.
6. Remember, it is your choice. You have the control to accept or reject any contact to your profile.
7. Don’t send form letters to everyone you contact. Make each contact personal. If the recipient doesn’t feel it was written especially for them, they won’t be impressed. Everyone wants to feel special.
8. Write out your profile before going online to join. It is much easier to have it prepared beforehand than to stare at a blank box saying, “describe yourself in 100 words”, and then wondering what to say.
9. Don’t lie, you will be found out!
10. Always meet in a public place, e.g. café, bar. Let someone know where you are going and take your mobile phone with you.
11. Never let your date pick you up from home on the first date.
12. Be well presented. Make an effort with your clothes to look well groomed.
13. Never give out your full name, address or home telephone no.
14. Always create a separate email account for your online activity.
15. Perhaps get a P.O. Box for registering for dating sites.
16. List only your mobile phone no.
17. If you have a full name, try and find out as much information as you can about a person prior to meeting them. You can do a Google search or there are websites you can go to for information.
18. Your safety is your first responsibility.
19. Know what you want and don’t want.
20. Write a great headline. What sounds better Anni or Newly Single looking for Adventure. The second headline is far more engaging and will get more hits. The purpose of your headline is to arouse curiousity and make other singles want to know more about you.
21. Avoid clichés like fun loving, carefree, laid back.
22. Avoid negativity, don’t sound desperate
23. Be yourself and write like you speak. You want someone to like you for who you are.
24. Be positive. And ask yourself - why would someone want to date you. What is special about you and what do you have to give to a partner.
25. Don’t be boring.
26. Don’t talk about I and me all the time in your profile. Make statements that begin with “we”, for example instead of saying“ I like to walk on the beach” you could say “we could enjoy a sunset walk along the beach together”
27. If you prefer long hair – don’t say “no short hair”, say something like “I love long hair”
28. Post a photograph of yourself that puts your best foot forward. You will attract 20 times more interest if you post a picture of yourself. No men with beer cans and tacky pictures. Like attracts like.
