Pennsylvania Towns Under Mandatory Evacuations

By: Lance Winslow

Over 200,000 people in Pennsylvania are under mandatory evacuations as rivers threaten to crest and overflow. Many people have already died and shelters are being set up on higher ground thanks to the Red Cross.

City and County Planners are calling this flood event at 100-year flood levels and are sure the rivers will over flow due to the amount of rain run off already on its way now. And there seems to be no let up in the rain and another storm is going to strike and then more rain early part of next week.

Many electric companies had shut down the power as flood levels rise and the Emergency management teams and swift water rescue teams are out in full force. Some of these areas are already flood prone and some areas folks thought they were safe, but reality is showing a different picture on this day.

There has also been severe flooding in parts of Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC and nearby Delaware and things will get worse for all before they get better. Many residents are saying this is the worst flood in over 12 years and some are saying in their lifetime.

Meanwhile the run-off and rain continues and it looks as if Pennsylvania is in for another soggy week. Consider all of this in 2006 and if you are in the North East and a flood zone, stay heads up.
