Planning Your Wedding Ceremony

By: Ed Whitlock

If you were to ask most people which part of their wedding they enjoyed planning the most, many would probably say the reception. Some would rather skip the ceremony and go straight to the party. However, the ceremony is necessary and can be a joyous occasion as well. They key to good wedding planning is knowing what you want and planning for it well in advance.

The first thing you need to do in good wedding ceremony planning is to decide what type of wedding ceremony you want. If you opt for a religious ceremony traditional to your faith then your wedding ceremony is going to follow a certain protocol. You may be able to add things or take things away but the clergyman performing the ceremony will have the final say on what is allowed and what is not. Civil ceremonies may offer more flexibility. Judges and justices of the peace usually do not object to anything provided it is not in violation of any laws of the state. You also need to be sure of any started marriage license laws and requirements.

In planning a wedding ceremony, the next thing you need to do is decide on the location. If you are having a religious ceremony then you will need to book well in advance. Churches Synagogues and Temples get booked up fast during wedding season. Paining a year in advance is not unheard of when booking a location for a religious ceremony. Civil ceremonies tend to be a bit easier to book but judges do get busy especially during heavy wedding times so call ahead.

A final piece in planning your wedding ceremony is your vows. Your vows are important because they are a public declaration of you and your spouse’s commitment to each other. You could go with traditional wedding vows or choose to write your own vows. Which ever you choose they need to be considered carefully.

The reception afterward may be the most fun but the wedding ceremony can be a fun and joyous occasion as well. Knowing the type of ceremony you want, along with the location and vows can make a ceremony one of the best parts of the day.
