Politics: It’s Time To Throw The "Bums" Out!

In 1992, throw the “bums” out, was like a rapidly contagious disease…and it spread fast! Of the “bums” that knew by there own surveys that they could not win the election…they resigned! And, they did Americans a favor! There were a couple of Senators and Representatives I hoped would go, but didn’t, so I was a little disappointed. But, in the overall picture of things in 1992, I was happy to see so many “bums” bite the dust! (Yahoo!)
It’s simple! The American taxpayer is not getting their money’s worth…they’re getting the short end of the stick when it comes to the work Congress is doing. I don’t remember the last percentage rating of Congress by the voters, but I think it was 28% approval by the American taxpayer. This is a DISGRACE! With this terrible showing, MOST members of Congress should go! Goodbye, you’re finished! Let’s vote in somebody else who can do the job! It’s time to throw the “bums” out…AGAIN!
In September 2006, the voters have spoken in Georgia, Alaska and Connecticut! And, now the voters have to speak out in the rest of the states for the election of 2006! THE CONGRESS CAN’T SEEM TO GET IT! The never-ending war in Iraq; greedy corporations everywhere as Congress looks the other way; the health care mess; the immigration mess; the aftermath of Katrina; one scandal after another; and they have the gall in Congress to give themselves NINE raises over the last decade or so! Trust…what’s that? Can the American trust anyone in the Congress anymore?
Here in New Mexico, the President of the University of New Mexico has been given his walking papers; (scandal); the President of Highlands University likewise (scandal). The former Treasurer of the state of New Mexico is on trial for extortion and racketeering; the previous Treasurer has pleaded guilty to extortion; the Superintendent of Insurance was forced to resign, and the Attorney General is looking into corruption within the office; the fellow running for State Auditor has been charged with sexually harrassing women, and it goes on and on!
Ethics…what’s that? Haven’t we been talking about ethics for over two hundred years in this country? I guess some people are slow learners…or never learn…or don’t want to learn!
In my view, there should be a throw the “bums” out party every 2-4 years! . Some politicians get too cozy with lobbyists and others; they nest too much; they forget (intentionally) why they are in office! A throw the “bums” out party regularly, would be a reminder that; “you were elected to serve the American taxpayer, and if that’s not okay with you…GET OUT!” TAKE YOUR LITTLE SELF-SERVING INTERESTS SOME PLACE ELSE! WE’RE FED UP WITH ALL OF YOU! And, this means the national level, the state level and the local level as well.
How would you like to be a Senator or a U.S Representative, making lots of money; working 2-3 days a week; with nobody looking over your shoulder and you answer to nobody; and you get a very nice pension at the other end? Who wouldn’t!
In recent years, my view of the American taxpayer has been too complacent…too apathetic; and YAWN too many issues away! In the 1960’s the Black Panthers; the Brown Panthers and even the Gray Panthers (little old men and little old ladies) were raising hell, in the interest of what was right for the country! They protested almost everything! Today…nothing but YAWN! In 1992, the American people FINALLY showed Congress and the various states, who had the power to make changes in this country for the good! And, the American people did it with their votes!
The year 1992, was a great year for the American people and they did themselves proud! They showed the “bums” in Congress and elsewhere who was running the country. Isn’t that the way it’s supposed to be in a democracy? But, maybe…just maybe…the Americans will come out of the coma they’ve been in for the last 15 years…and they can have another throw the “bums” out party in the year 2006!
NOTE: In an article that came over AOL on September 21, 2006, reported that only 25% of American’s approve of the way Congress is doing their job! Everyone has a vote, and every individual will decide for themselves whether they choose to keep members of Congress or not! It’s the voter’s decision!
