Relationship Advice: Enter the New Year with a New Relationship

By: Jeff Herring

As we all begin a new year have you considered what it would be like to begin a “new” relationship as well?

No, I don’t mean leaving the current relationship to begin a new one, which is often just a geographical change anyway.

Here’s what I do mean: have you considered what it would be like to organize your resolutions and goals for the new year around your couple relationship?

My belief is that we make the choice and decision to be married and/or part of a couple each and every day. So what would it be like if you made both the decision and the choice, each day in the coming year to:

Make your relationship and family your most important job.

Put hands and feet on and live out your vows

Contribute your absolute very best to your partner and relationship.

Daily meet the emotional needs of your partner (if you don’t know what they are, ASK!)

Relate to your partner in their own unique love language.

Have the guts to ask your partner the question “How am I doing as a spouse/partner?” (gulp!)

My belief is if you take action on and use just one of these suggestions in the coming year, you just might like the “new” relationship you can create.
