Relationship: Filler Talk

By: Julia Jones

Bring meaning and care to your life with filler talk. When all of you, your partner and children are together at the dinning table or just sitting together try to talk about subjects of daily life. Ask question such as what you did today in office or what you learnt in school rather than irrelevant question such as what movie is tonight or do you like the dish? Instead, converse on subject that involves them. It only makes them feel that you care for them. Even if you don’t understand, your simply asking the question makes them feel wanted and cared for. Ask real questions showing real interest rather than monotonous questions that have no relation with them.

It is fun sitting together and talking about each other. You and your family come to know about each others interest, ideas and above all what exactly each one is going through. You are also able to solve the problem if anyone is going through. It’s only when you ask questions concerning them that they are able to open up and disclose the problems they are facing any.

Filler talks strength the relationship. You feel the bond stronger when you are used to filler talk. You just want to talk more and more. You want to solve problems of each other. You start liking and taking interest in partner’s or children’s work. In a way you become more of friends. Friendship is a strong relationship which brings you close to each other.

Make it a priority to talk to family members regularly on matters that concern all of you. The more regularly you converse the more close you get to each other.
