Republican Held Congress Denies The Average American of a Minimum Wage Increase
By: Anthony Bloch
This week I want to talk about the minimum wage and the Republican controlled congress’s failure to enact legislation to increase the minimum wage.
The minimum wage has not been raised in 10 years when it was increased by 90 cents. This is a complete outcry and must not be tolerated by voters who will soon go to the polls.
Many of you know that in the past few years I’ve supported the Republican Party. Lately their shameful tactics that support the rich and left the average American behind have left me shaking my head.
This past week a bill that would have increased the minimum wage failed. The Republicans tied the minimum wage to a bill that was linked to estate taxes. Many Congressmen could not vote for this bill as it would have given further benefits to the richest Americans (CNN.com).
According to a Pew report published in April, 83% of Americans support an increase to the minimum wage.
As corporate executives rake in millions of dollars a year while laying off tens of thousands of workers, the average stiff has receive an hourly wage increase of only 90 cents in the past ten years. How can these Congressman live with themselves? How can they look themselves in the mirror while they stick a dagger in the backs of average Americans?
While I’ve been leery of the immoral attitudes of Democratic Congressman, this bunch of Republican hacks has left me with an empty feeling. Republican Congressman have shown themselves to be useless and incompetent.
It saddens me to say this but when you go to the polls, boot these degenerates out of office and send them a message from the little guy who couldn’t get a measly wage increase.
