Spiritual War, Setting the Captives Free

The Holy Spirit is by far superior to any other spirit. When demon spirits collide with the power of the Holy Spirit, they will be consistently defeated. Evil spirits are no match for the fire of the Holy Spirit. The only time demon spirits are allowed to remain in a person is when they are unrepentant and blatantly choose to continue in their sinful ways. The curse causeless does not come (Prov. 26:2). Usually a door of sin is first opened before a demon spirit comes to inhabit a person (Eph. 4:27).
Carnal Christians that love and long for the flesh to be gratified invite demonic influences. To be a carnal Christian is to be backslidden and estranged from the Spirit of God. Serving and yielding to the flesh grieves the Spirit of God. As for unbelievers, they all are demon possessed. If they do not have the Spirit of Christ, they have another spirit of a demonic origin (Rom. 8:9). They belong to the devil whether they know it or not. Society is full of rebels who daily disobey God without guilt or shame. To live such a carnal life and be totally given over to the flesh is to obstruct the Holy Spirit from giving you abundant life in Christ. In regard to demonic possession, Christians can be oppressed but not possessed. However, if an oppressed believer does not rise up and fight against the oppression and the forces of evil that are bombarding them, it is possible that the devil can eventually gain control of their soul as their will further weakens.
As the grain is beaten out of the full ears (Lev. 2:14), so also is the devil given a beating when the Holy Spirit comes in to dwell within us. The Spirit of the Lord drives every unclean spirit completely out of us, after which He inhabits us. Thank God that Jesus does not just want to visit us, but that He desires to abide within us by His inward dwelling Holy Spirit (Eph. 2:22; John 14:17). It is then that “Christ in you” begins to become ever increasingly real (Col. 1:27).
Christ is the anointed One, He that has the blessing of the Holy Spirit without measure. The word anoint means to rub or paint. The inward dwelling Spirit of Christ seeks to apply some divine elbow grease and rub you clean of all filthiness of flesh and spirit. As the Holy Spirit begins to apply pressure on you from within to conform you to the image of Christ, every demonic spirit that has formerly taken residence within you is driven out. Oh, what a joy it is to see the serpent’s head crushed in a person’s life when the Spirit of the Lord takes over!
As prophetically spoken in Scripture, the seed of the woman shall bruise Satan’s head (Gen. 3:14-15). That certainly happened on the cross at Calvary when Jesus triumphed over the devil and made an open spectacle of him publicly (Col. 2:14-15). Now, we, the sons of God and joint heirs with Jesus, can participate in Christ’s ministry and destroy the works of the devil (Rom. 8:17; I Jn. 3:8). What a joy divine to behold the God of peace trampling Satan underneath our feet (Rom. 16:20). You only get to cast out devils and fight works of darkness on earth! Therefore get busy about your heavenly Father’s business and set the captives free!
