Take a Mini Vacation
By: Tomira L. Rosser
Many couples long to get away, but many factors interfere with taking a vacation. Children, cost, and work are only a few of the major issues couples face when planning vacations. Yet time away can be a wonderful way to rejuvenate mind, spirit, and romance. Oftentimes vacation and other getaways are the only chances couples have to focus entirely on one another and the relationship. This time spent connecting can help keep the intimacy strong.
If you’re facing challenges in planning a traditional vacation, consider a mini vacation to help you relax and spend time together. Weekend getaways are much easier to manage that a full two-week vacation and can provide the same benefits as a longer retreat.
Where should you go and what should you do? This all depends on where you live and your budget, but you have some choices. Talk with other couples to find out their favorite nearby getaway spots. Travel agents and the local Chamber of Commerce will also have excellent suggestions. A nice hotel may be just the ticket, or consider heading off to a nearby bed and breakfast or spa.
If it’s within your budget, consider flying somewhere for the weekend or for a few days. If you stay too close to home, you may be tempted to check in briefly or to call work. The point is to get away and focus on the relationship! For those who tend to work too much in general, consider a rustic destination that doesn’t have cell phone coverage or access to the Internet.
You may be surprised at how a short time away can have a rejuvenating effect on your relationship. Enjoy the one-on-one time with your loved one.
