The US Border Issue Is Heating Up, Are You Ready For The Politics

The US Border Issue is sure to be a major issue in the upcoming elections this next time around. Is the issues over blown, are we safe as a nation or do our borders leak like a bathtub without the plug in it?
Many folks who have taken on this issue as political activists are wondering if all the shouting back and forth and the sound and fury involved is truly worth the cause. A few have said why bother beating your head against the wall? I for one have recently come into that camp and simply refuse to be thrown into the fray of the controversy and well, it is not that I do not care. I have been to every city in the US over 10,000 population and all the border towns too, which rely on daily crossings for labor, business and a symbiotic economic relationship.
It is hard to explain this to all the Mid West Cowboys and self-righteous who have never been there or the Union Employee who has recently been laid off or downsized. Additionally it is difficult to help the “open border crowd” understand the drug trade, illegality issues, diseases, import violations and international terrorism too. I do care about the issues, even designed the floor plans for a border crossing facility, with pre-pass RFID implant or Bio Metric Card system, with other screening lanes for TB, hepatitis, AIDS, criminal record, DNA scan, etc. All in 8-12 minutes from start to finish. We can build safer borders and shore up the holes, which exist if we would agree as a nation to do it.
Can the United States citizenry be educated on all the real problems with our borders and the need for open border movement, with controls? Can we get those who are so polarized to hear all the issues on both sides or will we be in for a free for all debate filled with name-calling, half-truths and chaos? Time will tell and that time is coming fast, so consider this in 2006.
