The US Policy After G.W. Bush’s Re-election
By: Aaron Schwartz
The presidential elections in the USA of 2004 played a great role in the further development of the country and of the whole world. As we know George W. Bush has won this presidential elections but the opinions about such results of the elections differ. Actually, it is not a secret that the Bush’s win is quite shady and unsure because both candidates finished very close to each other that emphasizes the fact that the current policy of Bush administration has a strong opposition not only in political circles but in the society as well. What are the reasons for such situation and what are the recent changes in the US policy after the election that has already caused a new wave of opposition.
First of all, I think that we must analyze Bush administration policy in two domains internal and external. As for external G.W. Bush has been and still is criticized for his aggressive external policy that seems to be a bit dubious. On the one hand, the US proclaims the war on terror and continues its radical war on terror, including military interventions in countries suspected in the support of terrorism, such as Afghanistan and Iraq. On the other hand, such policy stimulates military oriented industries and consequently, to certain extent, the whole American economy. So, we may say that it has both positive and negative results and it’s up to the individual to decide what prevails. However, we observe a remarkable tendency that indicates that far not all followers of G. Bush agree with such policy, for instance we may name the resignation of Collin Powel who is said to be the last voice of moderation in the Bush administration. Thus, we may expect more aggressiveness in foreign policy.
As for internal policy, we see that to some extent critics of G. Bush were right because, his social and economical policy is not perfect. Regardless his conservatism that so many citizens liked, this conservatism creates more and more opponents. For instance, Bush is widely criticize for his abortion policy, taxes, that seem to be injustice for many, more money spent on the military-industrial complex, and lowered care about the protection of environment, these are the main results of the Bush’s reelection. Though these facts are heard from his critics but we cannot deny that they do not have any reason to criticize this ‘new old administration’.
