UAV Helicopters To Deliver Communication to Stranded Flood Victims

By: Lance Winslow

After the Hurricane Katrina weakened levee broke; we found over 3500 people stranded on their rooftops. Air rescue was tough because even after Katrina hit the wind was severe for another six to ten hours. Then the rescue helicopters had to be flown in from over 300-400 miles away or further, taking even more time. Point to point perhaps four to five additional hours, while they landed refueled and got their orders of what to do. Meanwhile folks were climbing onto their roofs wondering if they would be swept away or have to swim for their lives. Some in fact did and many of those did not make it even though they made a last brave attempt to secure their own lives and the lives of their loved ones.

As the helicopter pilots flew into a flooded war zone, they started rescuing those that looked in the most need, but they were limited by weight and could only take a few people at a time, after several rescues they had to get fuel. There was no communication available between pilots, rescue logistic and first responder units and victims, unless of course you think that frantic waves of white t-shirts is communication? The international signal for “God help me please!”

Imagine picking and choosing in that situation. Now then I propose using mini-UAV helicopters to drop personal water filtration units to the victims with instructions and explanation of what is happening. For instance; This will help you clean the water for drinking. Put the water in this container and wait for 2 hours while it cooks the water and kills the bacteria, which could cause disease or kill you. You will be rescued in 8-10 hours hopefully but not later than 24 hours, thank you we are working hard to get you out of there.

Additionally these units would be outfitted with mini-infrared detectors looking for body heat ranges of humans; if it is discovered that people are stuck in the attics then they take priority and that would trigger and “E3” or “EEE” Emergency Evacuation Event. This would show up at the mobile command center and help would be forthwith. Think on this.
