US Addiction to Foreign Oil Hurting Peace Negotiation Process

By: Lance Winslow

Many believe that it is hard for the United States to exert very much weight during the peace process in World Negotiation, as many countries which have oil have us over a barrel. If we remove the “Oil Card” or proverbial “Ace of Spades” from the negotiation table in middle east peace talks, we show we are seriousness for “tough talk” in Middle Eastern issues and simultaneously defeat anti political rhetoric against “oil industry” and current administration, solve the issues of Global Warming complaints of other nations upset at us. Taking the wind out of their sails.

Easier said than done many political analysts say; yet if we stop and think about turning up the juice on Bio-Fuels, ethanol and alternative fuels, coupled with lighter materials, longer life batteries and streamline distribution then we maintain the upper hand in negotiation in World Affairs.

Okay taking this line of thought, then what other advantages might we have; that is to say what else do we get? Well for starters we can see a massive wave of new innovation for automobiles, lighter materials (NanoTech), manufacturing, etc. We also connect these innovations with our Space Mission (materials), robotics, net-centric cars and thus GM and Ford will have to work for their position in the market place through research and development, innovation and quick to market reality based solutions.

The innovation for components such as better batteries, hybrid conversion kits and cross over blended fuel engines could possibly re-employing all those 60,000 lay offs in all those start up companies. Thus teaching work ethic to once non-competitive Union Employees and then they will better understand the need for efficiency and productivity, because in smaller innovative type companies, that is all that matters. Without it there is no profit.

Currently the Democrats will be attacking the President’s “State of the Union Speech” comments saying; “Yah Sure, that is what Nixon, Reagan and everyone before said What happened? Nothing!” This is what I believe will be the next attack. But rather than allowing the Republicans the wind out of their sails and having the sound and fury cut off their strength, this is a chance to get everyone on the same page.

So, in fact uniting Republicans and Democrats in a common cause to reduce the addiction to foreign oil could be the best for all concerned, if in fact such talk is actually serious in nature. All this and more is possible if and only if there is a way to reduce the lawsuits which accompany new innovations in the market place which challenge the Auto Industry today, which is stifling the forward progression into the next period.
